The Gressingham Restaurant,
An intimate venue with a delicious menu

At the heart of historic Thurnham Hall, The Gressingham Restaurant serves lovingly prepared, traditional home-cooked food in a relaxed and intimate environment. With elegant décor and exceptional service, we offer a wonderful setting for casual dining, family celebrations and more.

When you arrive, take a drink in our Jacobean Lounge & Bar – the original ‘great hall’ with an enormous roaring open fire and live pianist several days of the week. Then you’ll be seated in one of two rooms, surrounding our kitchen. At the front of the hall, The Fountain View room looks out past the fountain to serene Lancashire countryside. At the rear of the hall, The Tower Room is part of the original 13th century Piel tower.

Introducing our award-winning Executive Head Chef,
Michael Weston-Cole

Michael is renowned as one of the most talented chefs in the North West, having trained and worked with multi-rosette and Michelin-starred chefs including Jean Christophe Novelli (of ‘Auberge du Lac’). Michael masterminds all the menus at Thurnham Hall and sets exceptionally high standards for the chefs and service staff in The Gressingham Restaurant.

Michael was named Lancashire Head Chef of the Year at the young age of 25, and continues to cause a stir with his unique and creative take on traditional, home-cooked food. Indeed, Michael’s work gave rise to one of the biggest media splashes in the North West’s restaurant industry when his ‘Ultimate Cumbrian Tasting Menu’ was celebrated as far afield as American TV’s USA Today.

Michael is dedicated to his roots and commits time to developing his own recipes – in particular his Special Black Pudding (reported by the BBC as “the finest black pudding in the land”). The recipe is a closely guarded secret!
